Workshops

What is the difference between Workshops and Support Groups?

The workshops are different from the support groups as they do not have a therapeutic focus but they have a class-structure style, where sychoeducation is the basis of the activity, as well as the idea of collective learning in a supportive environment. The nature of the workshops is interactive and constructive.

The workshops are designed as once-off activities where people can participate without having to commit to attending any further sessions. However, advance versions of the workshops are available for those participants who feel that they can benefit from further workshops.

The workshops last for two and a half hours and they are scheduled few times a year. Please feel free to contact us to find out when the next workshop is scheduled for or subscribe to our mailing list.

How can I benefit from attending a Workshop?

The workshops can help you to better address particular issues you are dealing with that are affecting your wellbeing and broaden your knowledge about a particular area of your life. These workshops have been designed in a way that allows participants to feel in a safe and supportive environment where respect, tolerance and understanding play an important role.

If you feel that there are any private matters that you would like to discuss, but may cause discomfort for you or for others if discussed in a group, we encourage you to seek individual therapy, couples or family counselling as this space would be more appropriate for this purpose.

Learning is a skill and it can be improved. Everyone has the opportunity to develop their memory and learning ability. Identifying your own learning style and the methods that work for you is key. The more you use your brain the better it works.

Social and emotional learning can help you develop the understanding, strategies and skills that support a positive sense of self, in relation to the learning process: how to not only receive the knowledge and process it, but also use it in a meaningful manner in your day to day life.

It is common that when you feel stuck in their learning process there are underlying fears and blockages that are stopping you from enjoying the process and making it more difficult to learn. Particularly in relation to learning a new language, when you have to learn the basics of communication. You may feel frustration, disempowerment, hopelessness and feelings of vulnerability and fear can arise.

It is important to become aware of those mental, emotional and psychological blockages that may be interfering with the learning process, so all the attention can be focused on the actual learning as such rather than fighting with fears, lack of self-confidence, old patterns that come from childhood and so on.

What can be achieved through this workshop:

  • Identifying and recognising emotions and thoughts that are limiting your capacity to learn
  • Acknowledging personal interests and strengths, maintaining a well-grounded sense of self-confidence
  • Identifying what is your best sensory channel to learn language skills
  • Developing self-management skills such as regulating emotions to handle stress, control impulses, and motivating yourself to persevere in overcoming obstacles, setting and monitoring progress toward the achievement of personal and academic goals.

Who can benefit:

People from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds who are studying English and feel like their blockages are making it difficult for them to learn and functionally use English in their everyday life.

Culture shock is the process of adjustment to an unfamiliar environment. During this process, diverse areas of the individual’s life can be affected, including their emotional, psychological, behavioural and physiological spheres. Individuals experiencing culture shock can feel anxiety resulting from not knowing what to do in a new culture.

Having professional guidance is important, as it broadens your understanding about the process of adaptation and supports you through the process of integration within the new culture whilst maintaining your connection with your cultural roots.

What can be achieved through this workshop:

  • Identifying whether you are experiencing culture shock and what are its implications on your life
  • Learning how to broaden your knowledge about the new culture and strategies to facilitate your process of adaptation
  • Learning how to keep the emotional and cultural connection with your own culture and roots
  • Learning strategies to manage the conflicts you experience due to differences between both cultures

Who can benefit:

  • People from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds who are experiencing culture shock

Psychological empowerment is a matter of developing new understandings, not merely acquiring new information, and therefore, this personal transformation comes from within the individuals, from their feelings and thoughts which are put into actions and behaviours.

This suggests that as an individual having the capacity to transform yourself, you can start the process of self-empowerment in order to secure a job or bring a business idea to life, in line with your personal goals and desires.

Objectives:

  • Creating a safe space where you can develop skills to build self-esteem and confidence in your professionalism
  • Developing a strategic plan in which you can find your way to improving your prospectus for professional jobs or for starting your own business.
  • Rediscovering your potential and increasing your motivation to apply for professional jobs.
  • Learning Neuro Linguistic Programming techniques that support you to transform your career aspirations.

Who can benefit:

  • People who want to empower themselves to improve their career options.
